Christ the Drunkard and the Religious Man

“The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
Matthew 11:19

I’m sure Jesus was not called a drunkard because “he was drunk in the spirit,” but because he actually drank wine. He was not afraid of what men would think about him, yet it was the religious men that condemned him for it. Was he being a bad example in drinking and feasting with the sinners? He didn’t seem to think so. Yet He was persecuted by the same men who persecuted John who didn’t eat or drink wine. That is the hypocrisy of the pharisees. The religious man will always find something to accuse you for. Whether it’s drinking or abstaining, it’s all demonic to this type of guy. “Beware of the leaven of the pharisees, which is hypocrisy.”
